Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are the A-list stars in this action thriller that relishes its luxurious settings and glorious Italian locations, especially Venice. He is the tourist, and she is maybe not all that she seems. He is drawn into the complicated life that she is leading and the international intrigue surrounding her. There’s also time for romance, of course, glamorous and passionate, in the cat-and-mouse action. Critics have not been kind: ‘A throwback to classic movies like Charade and North by Northwest where beautiful, sophisticated people answer life-threatening danger with bon mots and ingenuity’ (Box Office Magazine). ‘The movie dies onscreen; it might be the best advertisement for avoiding the glories of Italy ever released by a Hollywood distributor’ (Time Out New York). ‘This woefully botchedmystery-adventure-thriller-caper-romance-comedy, or whatever it was meant to be, is no fun at all’ (Wall Street Journal).
