Public transport users in Florence are being advised to expect significant disruptions on Sunday, June 14 as a 24-hour company-wide strike called by the COBAS Lavoro Privato union is set to affect the city’s urban bus network operated by Autolinee Toscane.

The Florence bus strike comes at the end of a week marked by industrial action across Italy. Between June 8 and June 14, a series of strikes are expected to affect the justice system, rail services, public administration, airports and local transport, creating disruption for commuters, business travellers and tourists. Major nationwide actions include a railway strike on June 11, public-sector walkouts on June 12, and aviation strikes involving airline crews and airport personnel on June 13.

According to the transport operator, bus services in the Florence area may experience delays and cancellations throughout the day. However, minimum service levels will be maintained during two guaranteed time windows: from 4.15 to 8.14am and 12.30 to 2.29pm.

Outside the guaranteed service periods, the availability of buses and ticket office services will depend on the level of participation in the strike. During the last 24-hour strike organized by COBAS Lavoro Privato on May 10, 2026, employee participation reached 25.18 per cent.

The strike has been called to highlight a broad range of workplace issues affecting employees. Among the concerns cited by the union are excessively long shifts, insufficient breaks, short turnaround times at route terminals and transfer times considered inadequate for operational needs.
