During months of disruption marked by closures, construction works and inconvenience for residents and businesses, via Pacinotti in the Campo dei Marte neighbourhood has taken on renewed life. The redeveloped street has officially reopened following an urban regeneration project inspired by the “Superilles” (Superblocks) model.

The “Superblocks” model is an urban planning approach developed in Barcelona that reduces car traffic within clusters of streets, prioritizing pedestrians, cycling, greenery and community spaces, while redirecting through-traffic to surrounding roads.

The initiative aims to return public space to people, with wider sidewalks, new tree planting, green areas, improved safety and a stronger emphasis on neighbourhood shops. The project is intended not only to enhance liveability, but also to revitalize local businesses.

“We express our satisfaction with this new phase,” said Francesca Conti Turchi, president of the Centro Commerciale Naturale Via Pacinotti. “Our initial request was for total pedestrianization of the street. Through dialogue with the city administration, an intermediate solution was reached, resulting in new pedestrian areas, wider pavements, additional tree planting and broader urban redevelopment interventions…Now is the time to work as a team: businesses, residents and the administration must collaborate to ensure this intervention becomes a true starting point for the area’s revival. The objective is clear: to restore via Pacinotti as one of the city’s key streets and turn it into a model for Florence, one that stands out for quality of life, local businesses, cultural vibrancy and residential appeal.”

A programme of upcoming initiatives will be announced in the coming days via the Instagram page @ccn.pacinotti.mille. Over the next weeks, the area is expected to host a series of events including extended opening hours, evening aperitifs, live music, white nights and community gatherings.
