Passengers travelling by train in Italy are being advised to prepare for disruptions as a nationwide rail strike is set to affect services from 9pm on Thursday, July 23, until 8.59pm on Friday, July 24.

The industrial action involves staff from the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord, and is expected to cause cancellations, delays and route changes on services across Italy.

Despite the strike, regional services will continue to operate minimum guaranteed services during the legally protected commuter time slots on weekdays, from 6am to 9am and 6pm to 9pm.

In Tuscany, the strike is likely to impact many of the region’s busiest rail routes, including connections between Florence, Pisa, Livorno, Lucca, Siena, Arezzo, Prato, Viareggio, Grosseto and Chiusi.

Trenitalia has published a list of guaranteed trains that will continue to operate during the strike. These include selected services on several of Tuscany’s main regional lines, such as the Florence–Pisa–Livorno route, Florence–Siena–Chiusi, Florence–Pontassieve–Borgo San Lorenzo, Florence–Vaglia–Borgo San Lorenzo–Faenza and Florence–Viareggio.

On the Florence–Pisa–Livorno line, a limited number of trains will run during the protected time periods, including morning and afternoon departures from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Pisa and Livorno, as well as return services to Florence. On the Firenze–Siena–Chiusi route, some early morning and evening trains will operate, while services between Florence and Arezzo will be maintained during peak commuter hours.

Passengers are encouraged to check the status of their train before travelling to the station as services outside the guaranteed minimum timetable may be subject to last-minute changes or cancellations.
